The laser that we have at Severn aesthetics effectively ‘superheats’ the skin tissue beneath finger and toe nails, causing the coagulation of the soft tissue that is contaminated with fungal material. This can result in a significant cosmetic improvement for patients.
This type of laser is capable of penetrating through the nail, heating the tissue in the nail bed where the fungus lies. The laser targets any pigment and water in the soft tissues, as well as blood in the vessels supplying the infection. The treatment is fast and convenient – it takes approximately 5 to 15 seconds to cover a single nail with laser pulses. This is superior to the lengthy application of topical products and to the potentially dangerous oral medication that can be prescribed.
